The Deep Breath Institute is a specialist provider of healthcare education, advanced first aid training, performance coaching, and disability support skill development. Founded by Tom Hassall, an accomplished paramedic, adventure athlete and performance coach, DBI delivers high-impact training grounded in clinical expertise, real-world experience, and a passion for resilience under pressure.
Tom brings together a unique background in emergency care, freediving, and elite performance psychology, skills sharpened through years as a frontline paramedic and honed in some of the world’s most challenging environments. His experience working across emergency medicine, remote fieldwork, tactical response, and high-performance coaching has shaped DBI’s commitment to evidence-based, experiential learning.
Today, DBI is supported by a multidisciplinary team of exceptional professionals including registered nurses, paramedics, corporate facilitators and NDIS educators who collectively ensure the highest standards of instruction and support. From registered first aid training and oxygen therapy to NDIS support worker onboarding and workplace safety programs, every session is led by practitioners who live and breathe what they teach.
With training grounded in current Australian healthcare standards and a delivery style that resonates with both professionals and the wider community, DBI helps individuals and teams prepare, perform and prevail whether in the home, the workplace, or the most demanding environments on Earth.
